From vineyards through Alpine pastures to ancient mountain villages, alp dairies with tasty raw-milk cheese, lonely mountain lakes, sweeping views and deep gorges. The 8-day round tour combines the most beautiful highlights of the Canton Vaud Alps. Impressive natural landscapes ensure unique backdrops: worthy of mention are the plaster pyramids at Col de la Croix, where over thousands of years, water and wind have produced a diversity of weathered shapes.

Tour des Alpes vaudoises nº46

 8KM   1’000M
The starting point is Aigle, at the foot of the mountain slope and with a picturesque old town, narrow winding lanes and a 12th century castle. The climb up to Leysin is steep but mostly shady. The views become more sweeping the further you go.

 16KM   1’000M
The route crosses forests and pastures up to Les Fers. It continues in the direction of the Tour du Famelon, then to la Pierre du Moëllé. Along the trek, you can admire splendid geological formations. The way goes along the Mont d’Or until Les Mosses.

 15KM   420M
Attractive trails lead down into the Pays-d’Enhaut, crossing wide pastureland. Descent from La Lécherette to Les Moulins, a tiny, picturesque mountain village. The section ends in Château-d’Oex, the main town of the Pays-d’Enhaut.

 14KM    1’200M
The route wends its way alongside the river Saane before climbing to the L’Etivaz plateau, famous for its cheese L’Etivaz AOP. The rocky nature reserve of La Pierreuse in the Gruyère Pays-d’Enhaut Regional Nature Park affords a rich variety of impressions.

DAY 5  L’Etivaz – Les Diablerets

 21KM    1’250M
The route climbs gently, touching on the Canton Bern region. Views sweep to Scex Rouge and the Diablerets Glacier. The language border is passed on the Col de Voré, where a small stone wall also marks the spot.

DAY 6  Les Diablerets – Villars

 18KM    1’100M
In Trechadèze, troops from Ormont joined Bern in the 1798 battle against the Vaud Republic. A geological highlight follows on the Col de la Croix: the plaster pyramids are a natural masterpiece created by thousands of years of weathering of old limestone.

DAY 7  Villars – Gryon

 22KM    1’050M
The trail links Villars and Gryon, two tradition-rich Vaud Alpine destinations, and leads to the architectural bijou of Alp Taveyanne. In Solalex, views extend across to the huge rock ledges and climbing paradise of L’Argentine.

DAY 8  Villars / Gryon – Aigle

 16KM    640M
Much of the route to Aigle is lined with vineyards. On the way, it’s well worth making a detour to the well-known salt mines in Bex, an extensive cave system. The section ends at Aigle, the starting point of the tour.
